VideoSongFinder

Comparison

The best tools to find a song from a video

No single tool wins everywhere. There is a right tool for each case: a song playing around you, a TikTok with one sound, a twenty-minute vlog, a tune stuck in your head. Here are the seven tools that matter, what they actually do, and where each one stops. VideoSongFinder is our site: we say so, and we say when another tool does better.

In short

  • Song playing around you, or a video playing on your own phone: Shazam (iPhone, Android, Mac, Chrome extension) or the music button of Circle to Search on Android. Free, one song at a time.
  • A video link with several songs (vlog, edit, mix): a tool that listens to the video from its link, such as VideoSongFinder, AHA Music or MelodySeek. They return the full track list, with the minute each song starts in long videos.
  • Before any tool, check the “Music” section under the YouTube video and the sound name on TikTok: when they exist, they name the song without listening to anything.

How we compared

Three questions that separate the tools

Where does the tool start: from the sound playing when you press the button, or from the video’s link? How many songs does it return: the one playing now, or every song in the video? And what does it really cost once you look past “free”?

For other tools, every fact comes from their official page or help centre as of October 20, 2026; when something is not published, we say so instead of guessing. For VideoSongFinder, the numbers come from our own analyses, published live on our statistics page.

No tool paid to be listed, and no link is an affiliate link. Free limits change often, so the check date is shown at the top and bottom of this page.

  • Starting pointThe sound playing, the video link, a file, or a hummed tune.
  • Number of songsOne at a time, or the whole video at once.
  • TimestampsWhen each song plays, essential in a long video.
  • Real costDaily limits, mandatory ads, paid plans.
The criteria, in the order they matter for a video.

The sound playing

Shazam and Google: unbeatable in the moment

Shazam is still the fastest for a song playing around you, in a shop, at a party, on the radio. For a video it can also listen to the phone’s own audio: the Music Recognition button in the iPhone Control Centre, the floating pop-up button on Android, and a Chrome extension that listens to the current tab on a computer. Step by step: Shazam for videos.

On Android, Circle to Search does the same without an extra app: long-press the navigation bar, then tap the music note. Google added a history of recent searches in 2025. The Google app also recognizes a hummed tune, which no link-based tool does.

Their shared limit: they recognize what plays when you press the button, one song at a time, without telling you where it sits in the video. Perfect for a one-sound TikTok. For a vlog that runs fifteen songs under a voice-over, you have to restart at every track, at the right moment.

No listening needed

YouTube and TikTok sometimes name the song

Under a YouTube video, expand the description: a “Music” section may credit the songs matched by Content ID, YouTube’s copyright system. YouTube’s help centre says it shows the first ten songs only, and it is missing when the rights holder gave too little data or the video is marked “made for kids”.

On TikTok, the sound name sits at the bottom of the video; tap it to open the sound page with every video that uses it. When the sound is a real release, that is your answer. When it says “original sound”, it is the creator’s label and the song still has to be identified.

From the link

AHA Music, MelodySeek, VideoSongFinder: the whole video

These three sites start from the video link or a file and listen to the soundtrack at the source, with no microphone and no room noise. It is the only way to get every song at once, plus the minute each one starts in a long video.

AHA Music takes YouTube, Shorts, Instagram, TikTok and X links and has a Chrome and Edge extension. Its page lists 2 videos a day for guests (10 minutes in total) and 3 with a free account (20 minutes), each scan unlocked by a rewarded video ad, up to five for a long video; the Pro plan removes ads. MelodySeek takes TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook links, files and the microphone; it has a limited free plan and paid plans whose prices we could not verify.

VideoSongFinder takes TikTok, YouTube, Shorts and Instagram Reels. With a free account (Google or email) you get three new TikTok, Reels or Shorts videos a day, up to 5 minutes each, with no ad before the result. A video someone already analyzed shows instantly, with no account and no limit. For YouTube and beyond, credits with no subscription and no expiry: €2.99 for 10 videos, €4.99 for 30, €9.99 for 100.

Everyone’s limits

What no tool can find

Every one of these tools matches an audio fingerprint against a catalogue of released tracks. What is in no catalogue cannot be found by any tool: music composed for an ad and never released, a DJ’s unreleased ID, a sound made on TikTok by an anonymous creator. One hard TikTok tested on October 16, 2026 was found neither by us nor by MelodySeek.

A loud voice over the music, a sped-up or slowed-down sound, or a cover recorded for the occasion also lowers confidence. A good tool says so instead of guessing: we show a confidence percentage for every song and flag a less certain result as such.

  • Released track, even under a voiceIn the catalogues: found by most tools.
  • Sped-up, slowed or remixed soundFound when that version is released, lower confidence otherwise.
  • Cover made for an adOnly if the brand or artist released it.
  • Unreleased or never-published musicIn no catalogue: not found anywhere.
What automatic recognition can find, and what it misses.

The right pick

Which tool for which video

One song, on your phone: Shazam or Circle to Search is quickest. A TikTok with a named sound: tap the sound name. A YouTube video from a big channel: check the “Music” section first.

A vlog, an edit, a compilation or a mix: a link-based tool that returns the whole list. Here, paste the link: the result page stays online with Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and YouTube Music links for every song, and you can share it. A tune in your head with no video: the Google app, or our page what song is this.

Pick in three questions

  1. Does the video have a link?

Yes: a link-based tool. No, the song is playing around you: Shazam or Google.

  2. How many songs?

One: any tool. Several: a tool that listens to the whole video and returns timestamps.

  3. Is the title already shown?

Check the TikTok sound name and the YouTube “Music” section before running anything.

Updated on

What is the best way to find a song from a TikTok?

Start with the sound name at the bottom of the TikTok. If it says “original sound”, paste the TikTok link into a tool that listens to the video, such as VideoSongFinder, AHA Music or MelodySeek. Shazam also works when the video plays on the same phone.

Can Shazam identify a song from a video link?

No. Shazam listens to whatever is playing when you press the button, on your phone or around you. To start from a link you need a tool like VideoSongFinder, which listens to the video at the source.

Which tool lists every song in a YouTube video?

Link-based tools: they listen to the whole video and list every song with its timestamp. YouTube’s own “Music” section may credit up to ten songs when the rights holder supplied the data.

Are these tools really free?

Shazam, Google, YouTube and TikTok are free. Link-based tools pay the recognition engine for every minute they listen to, so they cap videos per day, ask you to watch an ad, or offer a paid plan.

Do VideoSongFinder and AHA Music use the same engine?

We use the ACRCloud engine, which listens to the video from its link. Catalogues overlap a lot from one tool to another, but not fully: when one tool misses a song, another may find it.

Why can no tool find my song?

The track is probably in no catalogue: original composition, unreleased song, sound made on TikTok. The video’s comments, a lyrics search and communities like r/NameThatSong remain your options.

Do I need to install an app?

Not for link-based tools, which run in the browser on phone and computer. Shazam is an app, except on iPhone where recognition is built into the Control Centre; Circle to Search is built into recent Android phones.

Which tool for a long video, like a mix or a vlog?

A link-based tool with timestamps. Here, a YouTube video is listened to with credits, up to 2 hours. For mixes see the DJ mix tracklist finder.

Is this comparison up to date?

The facts were checked on October 20, 2026 against each tool’s official page. Free limits change often: check them on the tool’s site before you choose.
