Instagram Reel song finder
Instagram names the music when it comes from its library and writes “Original audio” otherwise. Paste the link of a public Reel: we listen to the video and give you the title, the artist and where to play it.

Under the username: the song from Instagram’s library, or “Original audio” when the sound came with the video.
In short
- The paper-plane icon under the Reel has a Copy link option; paste what it copies (an instagram.com/reel/… address) into the box.
- “Original audio” means the sound came with the creator’s video. It can contain a real song that Instagram doesn’t name; listening to the Reel finds it if it was released.
- Instagram sometimes blocks automated access to a video. The result page then lets you upload the file instead. Private accounts and stories can’t be reached by link.
What song is in this Reel?
A library song, or “Original audio”
At the bottom of a Reel, under the account name, a line shows the audio. A song added from Instagram’s own library appears there by name; tapping it opens the audio page, where you can save it.
When it shows “Original audio”, the sound is part of the video itself. That can be a voice or street noise, or a real song played while filming, added in an editor like CapCut or Edits, or carried over from TikTok. Instagram makes no link with the official release in that case, and that’s when listening helps.
If the original audio carries another account’s name, the creator reused the sound of an earlier Reel. The trail then leads to that first Reel, where the caption sometimes names the song.
The link
Copying a Reel link on a phone or a computer
In the app, the paper plane under the Reel opens the share sheet; Copy link puts an instagram.com/reel/… address in your clipboard. On a desktop browser, the address of the open Reel works, as does the three-dot menu’s Copy link.
The link often ends with a sharing parameter such as ?igsh=… You can paste it as it is: we only read the Reel ID. Regular video posts (instagram.com/p/…) work the same way, as long as they are public.

- 3the ID of the video (example)
- 4a sharing parameter, no effect on the analysis
When the link fails
Plan B: upload the video file
Instagram limits automated access to its videos at times. During our tests on October 12, one public Reel couldn’t be read from its link; we won’t pretend otherwise. In that case the result page offers to take the video itself: save it if the creator allows downloads, or screen-record it while it plays with sound.
Your browser then extracts only the audio track, in mono and reduced to 8 kHz, which is enough for recognition, up to 15 minutes of sound. The video never leaves your phone, and the audio sent is deleted after the listen.
8 kHz
What is sent when you upload a file: mono audio, reduced to the minimum recognition needs.
What can be read
Reels, posts, stories and private accounts
It all depends on what a visitor without an account can see. A public Reel and a public video post are fine. A story isn’t: it expires after 24 hours and has no stable public address. A private account never is, even if you follow it, because the engine visits Instagram logged out.
For a story, screen-record it and upload the file from a result page, or run Shazam while it plays. For a photo post with music, there is no video to listen to: the audio line at the top of the post is the only source.
- Public Reelinstagram.com/reel/… copied from the share button.
- Public video postinstagram.com/p/…, handled like a Reel.
- StoryNo usable link: screen-record it, then upload the file.
- Private account, photo with musicNo video the engine can open.
Using the song
Found it: listen, save, or put it in your own Reel
The buttons on the result page open the official release in Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer or YouTube Music. Inside Instagram, saving the audio from its page keeps it in your saved items, ready for a Reel of your own.
To post with that song, search for it by title in Instagram’s music library instead of reusing another account’s original audio: the license is then handled by the app. Business accounts only get part of that library, which is why a song can be missing for them.

What does “Original audio” mean on a Reel?
That the sound came with the creator’s video rather than from Instagram’s music library. It can contain a real song, added while editing or played while filming, but Instagram doesn’t name it.
How do I find the song in an Instagram Reel by link?
Copy the Reel’s link from the paper-plane menu and paste it at the top of this page. After the listen you get each song found, with buttons to play it.
Why does a Reel analysis sometimes fail?
Instagram limits automated access to videos at times. The result page then offers a file upload: only the audio is sent, reduced, and it isn’t kept.
Does it work with a private account?
No, even if you follow it: the recognition engine sees Instagram as a logged-out visitor. Save or screen-record the video, then upload the file.
Can I find the song in an Instagram story?
Not by link: a story expires and has no stable public address. Screen-record it while it plays, then upload the file or use Shazam.
Are regular video posts supported?
Yes, when they are public: instagram.com/p/… links are handled like Reels.
Is the file I upload kept?
No. Your browser only sends the audio track, in mono and reduced to 8 kHz, up to 15 minutes. It is used for the listen and then deleted.
Why can’t I find the song in Instagram’s music library?
Either it isn’t offered in your country, or your account is a business account: those only get the part of the library cleared for commercial use.
Is it free?
Yes, with a free account (Google or email): three new Reels a day. Reels other people already checked open immediately, with no account, and don’t count.
